Big Hair Band
Big Hair Band
I have really big hair, and so I decided to make a hairband that would hold it all back. I had never done cabling before, but used this really simple lattice stitch (hard to see in the pics).

Big Hair Band
Materials needed:
1 skein of Sugar 'n Cream, 100% cotton, 50 gm, or another yarn of light worsted weight. I recommend not to use anything too silky or it will just slip out of your hair. The Sugar 'n Cream has a somewhat rough texture and this seemed to work well utility wise.
1 pair size 8 needles
Cable Needle or dpn
Directions
CO 98 stitches
Knit one row, then follow the pattern below
1. k3, p4, *k2, p4. Rep from * to last st, then k1
2. p1, C4F, *p2, C4f. Rep from * to last 3 sts, then p3
3. work like row 1
4. p3, *k2, T4B. Rep from * to last 5 sts, then k4, p1.
5. k1, p4, *k2, p4. Rep from * to last 3 sts, then k3.
6. p3, C4B, *p2, C4B. Rep from * to last st, then p1
7. work like row 5
8. p1, k4, *T4F, k2. Rep from * to last 3 sts, then p3.
9. Bind off 24 stitches. k3, p4, *k2, p4. Rep from * until you have 25 stitches left (including stitch on LH needle). k1, bind off remaining 24 stitches. You will have 50 sts remaining.
10 - 16, Reattach yarn to remaining 50 sts, and then rep rows 2 through 8.
17. Bind off remaining stitches. Sew together ends.
Explanation of stitches:
C4F (cable 4 front): Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at front of work, knit next 2 sts from LH needle, then knit the 2 sts from cable needle.
C4B (cable 4 back): Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 2 sts from LH needle, then knit the 2 sts from cable needle.
T4B (twist 4 back): Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 2 sts from LH needle, then purl the 2 sts from cable needle.
T4F (twist 4 back): Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at front of work, purl next 2 sts from LH needle, then knit the 2 sts from cable needle.
